Hi everyone! I really hope someone out there can tell me if this is normal. I have a 10 month old precious little girl, her name is Matilda. I was so proud of her because she learned potty training really fast, she had no accidents all this time until now. We live in a small place, so I trained her with wee wee pads. All of a sudden is like she has no memory. She pees in the carpets!!!!! she has never ever done this. I am tired of cleaning and I think I tried everything. I say a loud NO if I catch her in the act, if not I ignore her and clean and if she goes on her pads I make a huge show.... good girl, treats, etc.... but she keeps doing it! Is this normal???, is it a phase??? please please help me! and thank you!!!!!!!

I hear ya, I have a 2 1/2 year old male. It is one of the reasons I am here. We just bought an underground fence.
They are stubborn and like to sneak to go potty. Do you cage her? We cage ours at night so he doesn't have access to our house. He still goes in the house during the day though. It might help for you to try it. You a cage just big enough they can turn around and lay down in. |

I am to having trouble training my Cooper. He is 4 months old and we took away his pad about a month ago. We were afraid that he would get carpet and his pad mixed up so we completely took it away. He goes outside well but still is sneaky about his mistakes in the house. He has better days then some. If you a frequent about taking them out they tend to have less accidents. I read on a different yorkie forum a few mins ago that when you are cleaning up the mess make sure he sees you cleaning it. Then make him smell the napkin you cleaned it up with and then place the napkin outside (or on their pad if you want them to continue using it). I also have a training book that says to get really angry at the mess on the floor (not at the dog). Scold the mess and then take your pup to where he should go. Hope this helped a little

I have been trying something that a poodle trainer recommended (for all types of dogs.) Put your dog on a leash and tether them to you. Basically they can't sneak off. Also, they bond to you more and see you as the leader thus being more compliant and obedient. I have been doing this for over a week now and it is really working. My Yorkie follows me everywhere anyway, so it actually calms him to be so close all the time. But also when he does separate, he is calmer too. At night we still cage him.
We still haven't trained him on the under-ground fence, but that is coming too. |
