Default We Just got a new puppy!!!!

Ok we bought the puppy we won't get him until the middle of July. So I have had lots of dogs but never a little dog let alone a yorkie. All of things I am reading about with the special requirements for feeding yorkies and I have to say they are leaving half of the story out. Unfortunately it's the important part! Royal Canine tells you what they need but not how much. The rest of the sights seem to really get into talking about low blood sugar, and while agree that it is really important knowledge. It is far from answering my questions. I'm not a big fan of Royal Canine. It made my cats and dogs have really smelly poo and both smelled the same and it is a particular to royal Canine. Not to mention that where I live now the closest dealer is an hour away. My personal choice for dry kibble is Evo which is a grain free food but I don't know if it will be in small enough bits or if the nutrients are going to be right. With my cats I feed them a raw diet that I make and freeze a week at a time
I was wondering if maybe making my own food would be an option. That leaves open the question of a recipe. On the bright side I have 6 more weeks to have everything in place before Cookie comes home with us!

Hi
We've looked into lots of different makes of food for our 3 month old yorkie I find it terribly confusing.I know there are things they cant eat but surely if you vary their diets from being young they are more likely to be tolerant to those foods? The puppy food we use only has 2 flavours so we add chicken and fruit to it and on Sundays he has scrambled egg...he does get bored with his food but then is this just Yorkies? Good Luck with whatever you decide I'm sure you may end up changing it ...Yorkies rule

I too just got a female Yorkie (8/26/12) although the breeder was feeding her Purina puppy food I have begun transitioning to Blue Buffalo Freedom for small breeds. This selection is free of grains, glutens and artificial preservatives. Bella (My Yorkie) just loves the natural chicken recipe with life source bits (whatever they are). However, researching what food is best can simply make your head spin. Frankly, in the end, although Blue Buffalo is highly rated the plethora of choices within the brand has left me somewhat dazed. Is a gluten free diet appropriate?
