Default How do you get rid of matted hair on a yorkie?

I have a friend who has a yorkie who has lots of knots in her hair, how do we comb it out without hurting her without having to shave all of her hair off?

Has your friend combed her yorkie's hair to a point where the yorkie was yelping or barking?

Someone told me to rub a pinch of dry cornstarch into the mat and keep working at it. My pup is the same so I'm hoping it works x

I am lucky I guess. Soup loves to be combed and/or brushed so I do it at least once each day while watching TV or just sitting on my .... Took her for a cut on Saturday and the groomer complimented me on finding no mats or tangles .. YAY .. I want her hair to grow long but .. she takes the rubber band or ribbon or clip or anything out of her top knot. I take it out myself each day and comb it bit I would love for her to leave it alone after I am finished.

We have always used a detangling conditioner on our pomeranian. They get horrible mats! We also brush everyday and bath weekly. Yorkies hair is like ours and you wouldn't go a day without brushing it and neither should they.

On dry fur, get a spoonful of cornstarch and dump in onto the matted fur, then just rub in-between your finger tips and the matts come up to the surface and separate. I've used this numerous times because my little man gets SERIOUS matts, and it works PERFECT. Please tell your friend to try this method before cutting the little girls pretty hair!
