Well my Yorkie is calm and will let me do anything. So I cut his hair with scissors only. I like his ear hair long. But everything else, I keep about two inches long all over, except the face.

I can't do his nails though as I am too nervous. So he does have to go somewhere for that.

I tried it once on my poodle many many years ago. She looked like a muppet. It was very sad. Now I will just go directly to the groomer because that is where I am going to end up, whether I try cutting it first myself or not.

I use thinning shears from Sally's and started out slow until I built up my confidence. I wouldn't do it any other way now!

So is it okay to use like human clippers? Unfortunately until I get done with law school I'm going to have to cut my pup myself. The shelter already razored him down for the summer but kept his face long. I'm going to have to go cut around his ears, because you can't even see them lol. The reason I ask is I just bought my boyfriend a new beard trimmer for valentines day and he keeps his old ones so his has two extra. I've cut my own hair before and trim his sideburns so I'm decent at scissors
